Maia’s Easy Addition Quilt

My love affair with the Easy Addition quilt started at QuiltCon on February. I knew I wanted to make one (or twelve) but the recipient had to be worthy. And would have to appreciate it. Then one of Maddie’s BFF’s graduated high school and is headed off to Babson this week – and she wanted a quilt!

Maia is an awesome girl. A great student. A warm friend. A role model. She was definitely worthy of getting an Easy Addition quilt! And I think she likes it!

We knew Maia’s favorite color was lavender. So I pulled a FQ pack of Kaffe Fassett prints and a coordinating lavender from my stash, deciding to do the corners in the same color to tie the quilt together. The background is kona white and the back is the same lavender. I ended up cutting 16 fat quarters, although I only probably needed 5. So, in addition to Maia’s quilt, I have 36 more blocks done!

I sewed the blocks for Maia’s quilt on vacation in Maine.  But I still had to quilt it. But then, my machine and I had a little altercation.

Yep, that is my husband, on the floor, under my machine, with a drill. Turned on. Pointed at my machine. Turns out the finger that holds the bobbin basket in place had loosened so he had to loosen it and put the bobbin back in place. Fortunately Alan from Quilter’s Basket in Pawling NY texted us through it. That was close!

With my longarm machine back in action I was able to get it quilted. The pattern is an all over daisy pattern called Daisy Power. I used two layers of cotton batting and wonderfil 50wt thread. I was able to get it bound and off to Maia right before she goes to school on Thursday. I really loved making this and hope it brings Maia warmth, comfort and the safety of home when she off to school. Go get ’em Maia!
