I made this twin sized bed quilt for a customer I met at a craft show last fall. She wanted something for her third grandson to match quilts that she made for the first two. She really wanted the Ohio star block and the homespun sashing. Beyond that she was very flexible and open to suggestions.
I liked using a lot of white, both in the block and as a border. The blue is a slightly mottled fabric – as close to a solid as I could get. And the red matches the quilts she made for her other grandsons. The quilting is a light blue cotton with a loose meandering pattern. Beyond the quilt, I also did a matching 24″ pillow.
My customer was very pleased and I am so happy about that. Illness prevents her from continuing to quilt and I know she really wanted all three of her grandchildren to have a quilt from her. This was a good experience in making something that is not quite what I would pick, but still beautiful and fun to do. I called it “modern traditional” as it is very traditional with the fabric choices and block but made more modern with the heavy use of white.
