My brother always says, “sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you.” I got the bear for sure today. 

I had a client meeting in Shawnee, Kansas and was heading straight to the airport when done. I have never gotten to a quilt shop in the Kansas City area, so on a lark I searched and was shocked to find one on the same street as my client only a mile away. I had to go visit Prarie Point Quilt and Fabric Shop. 

Before even entering the shop you see amazing quilts right outside. I love that have a display to welcome you. 

This shop has a great selection of fabric including batiks, traditional prints, newer collections, and novelty prints. I like how they used signs to call out collections that are displayed together. There aren’t a ton of modern prints, but if modern quilting is your thing, you certainly will find patterns and some fabric here. They also have terrific notions and so many examples throughout the shop. I really appreciate seeing things made as I find it very motivating. 

I also really liked how much care and attention the staff pay to displaying their fabric. I thought the fat quarter storage was very clever, and this is a great use for an old cooler. 

There is a lot to see and experience in this shop and it is worth making a trip to visit. It is a busy shop, but they are friendly, well-staffed and coordinated in their approach to meeting customer needs. Unfortunately this was a quick trip, but I’ll be back.
