Maddie and I drove upstate today to do a college visit at Binghamton University. After the info session and tour, she went to visit with a friend who attends BU. I went to find a local quilt shop of course!

About six miles off campus, I found Patchwork Angels. The outside of the ship is non descript, and if you blink you will miss it. I did. And I am glad I turned around. 

The first thing you need to know about this shop is that there is stuff everywhere. It isn’t for the faint of heart but it is worth it. And the shopkeeper knows where everything is and is eager to help. The second thing to know is that their website lies. They have way more than the 1,000 bolts the site promises – maybe double. And the third thing to know is that just when you thing there is nothing else to see, another room pops up. It is as full as the one before. Apparently there is a classroom as students kept appearing but I never found it. Oh yeah, there are bargains to be had – $4 per yard in the sale room if you finish a bolt this weekend. Heck yeah, I finished four. 

I don’t know how they do it but they have patterns, books, threads and other notions, rulers and cutting supplies, other tools, pre-cuts, wool, panels, kits and yardage. Honestly it is so crowded that I am surprised I liked it so much as this kind of clutter would paralyze me at home. But the woman working was so warm and interesting and the fabric selection so lovely that I went with it and really enjoyed it. 

Go with a list and an open mind and you won’t be disappointed. The fabric is of a wide range, but more traditional than I usually buy, with lots of seasonal and novelty selects. There really is something for everyone.

PS – they cut a 38″ yard. That really adds up when stash building!!!
