Quilt Shop Review – Gotham Quilts, NY, NY

I had a meeting in midtown today and got there early. I decided to go for a walk, and amid the hustle and bustle of the NYC fashion district, I found the gem that is Gotham Quilts. I knew the shop was around here somewhere, and follow them on Insta (Gotham Quilts), so I was happy to have a few serene minutes in the shop before the wild ride that was to be the meeting at my company’s parent company.

Compared to some traditional shops, this shop may feel sparse. It isn’t. It is modern. Fabrics. samples and small projects have room to breathe. As opposed to every inch of the space being crammed, this space is clean and simple and really feels sleek. It invites you to look, and touch, and relax. It is lovely.

This is a decidedly modern quilt shop. They have all the modern designers, plus solids, plus modern holiday prints. There were a variety of features collections as well as mixers allowing you lots of options.

I am not sure if there is a class room upstairs, but there are great samples throughout the shop.

Beyond the great fabric and notions selection, they had lots of other cute projects. These are little hand embroidery kits that include all the supplies, including a little wooden hoop. I grabbed one of these for my mother-on-law for Christmas.

I thought this project was really fun too and grabbed one of these for me. I think it will be a ton of fun in my studio.

I turn 50 in a couple of weeks and have a list of fifty things to do in the next year. One is a quilt for myself, which will be a Tula Pink’s city sampler. I love this shop sample, made from Tula Pink city sampler blocks. LOVE!

If you are in NYC, visit this shop. The team is lively and they have exquisite taste. They are some accommodating, even offering to cut a FQ from the bolt. They have Berninas, including service, and lots of other fun, slightly off the beaten path type products and ideas. I enjoyed it so much I may even be looking forward to my next meeting at my parent company! 😀 I loved City Quilter and was so sad when it closed, but I think I may end up loving this shop as much, if not more.

Gotham Quilts is located at 40 W 37th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues in New York City or online at https://gothamquilts.com. If you decide to visit, let me know and maybe I will meet you there!
