Dark Star Fabrics, Phillips, Maine

Was so fortunate to head to our house in Rangeley with some friends earlier this month for leaf peeping, sewing, and a bunch of laughs. On our main leaf peeping day we took a ride to Phillips, Maine, just a few towns away to visit Dark Star Fabrics.

Deb and Rachelle are a mother / daughter team that own and operate Dark Star. It is a charming shop on a quaint Main Street (literally) in an old home. While they were camera shy, they welcomed me taking photos.

The shop has great blenders, a nice selection of notions, especially those that you might need in an emergency on a sewing weekend away from home. (Ask me how I know.) They had a great selection of aboriginal fabric, with some that I recognized as newer prints. They also had a large selection of panels – so large that I bought one I still have available in my shop. LOL. We enjoyed our visit and really loved their collage owl quilt. They had several panel quilt samples too which always helps drive ideas.

Dark Star Fabric is at 30 Main Street in Phillips, Maine and available online at darkstarfabrics.com. They have limited hours due to the pandemic, but if you are in western Maine it is worth a visit.

We had fun at the fabric store but really enjoyed our leaf peeping too. We were on the early side for that part of Maine, but the air was crisp and the colors were popping. It was an inspiring week and I look forward to sharing some ideas and patterns that came from the week soon.
